Inspired by a previous B.L.I.S blog, I recently set out to do some “thrifting” of my own. What I found was a true gem right here in the Queen City. Whether you’re a novice vintage shopper or a vintage connoisseur, Hong Kong Vintage & Recycled shop in the Plaza Midwood/NODA area will appeal to every fashionista. The shop features clothing, jewelry, shoes, boots, accessories, furniture and house ware. The owner, Elizabeth, frequents estate auctions, yard sales, and the like to discover her finds.

There are two characteristics that set Hong Kong apart from the rest. First, the store’s well-kept chic interior invites you in and encourages you to stay for awhile. The clothes are neatly organized by color; the result is a visually stimulating palate. Before you know it, you’ll be gliding from feminine pink lacy dresses to edgy, dark blue leather pants. The shoes and purses are equally easy to sort through, and the unique jewelry pieces are neatly showcased in glass display cases.

Secondly, Hong Kong has a chic, user-friendly website (www.hongkongvintage.com) that offers online shopping (using e-bay as a conduit). All items have informative descriptions accompanied by high quality pictures. You can purchase your one-of-a-kind treasures without leaving the couch.

With average prices in the range of $14 to $50, Hong Kong fits every budget.  On my visit, I purchased two skirts, a black pleated chiffon skirt and a summery green A-line retro skirt; each skirt was $14. Once the warmer weather returns, I plan on pairing the classic black pleated skirt with trendy accessories and chunky heels for a modern, fresh look.

If you’re a first-timer at thrifting, Hong Kong will be a great place to start and if you’re an expert thirfter, Hong Kong will be a welcomed break from the typical unkempt vintage shops. (Hong Kong is located at 1514 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205. I suggest parking in the lot located at the intersection of Central Avenue and Thomas Street.)

Wishing you hope & B.L.I.S.,

Monica
